It's the holiday season, last night I took the girls for a drive to appreciate all the time and effort others put into their holiday decorations. We saw a spectacular house where the owner had hand made acres of holiday scenes in lights. One scene stood out from the rest. He had made a beautiful nativity scene that showed Mary and Joseph walking to a manger and then a baby appeared, followed by Shepards and Three Wise Men. I couldn't help but immediately begin to imagine Mary and her birth experience. I wonder what it was like there, how she must have felt and what her birth story would sound like if she were here to tell it. While we never hear about that side of it, I know Mary would have had her story to tell, how she knew she was in labor, the fear, the excitement, and the sheer joy that she must have felt when He arrived and she held that beautiful baby in her arms for the first time.
Many more babies will be born on this eve, and tomorrow and all the days that follow. My grown up Christmas wish is for all the Women in the world who are about to begin their own personal birth story. Know this:
You are strong
You can do this
You are full of light and love
You are doing this
You are strong
Your body was made to give birth
Your inner wisdom will guide you
Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Holidays and all good things.
